Cooper Private
Parlando di costruttori per clienti privati un posto di primissimo piano lo occupa la brittannica Cooper, nota anche per essere stata la prima a realizzare monoposto piccole e leggere ed adattabili a diversi tipi di motore. Nella storia delle partecipazioni mondiali della marca i privati rivestono un ruolo importante, basti dire che il debutto (Monaco 1950) avvenne ad opera del privato Harry Schell, cosi come pure le prime due vittorie (Argentina e Monaco 1958) ottenute da Moss e Trintignant con il team di Rob Walker, anche l’ultimo GP mondiale disputato (ancora Monaco, nel 1969) é opera del team privato di Colin Crabbe con Vic Elford, visto che la squadra ufficiale era stata ritirata fine 1968.
Utilizzarono le Cooper i principali privato inglesi, Walker, Reg Parnell, BRP ma anche team italiani come Centrosud e Scuderia Castellotti, inoltre moltissime altre piccole squadre e piloti che partecipavano a titolo personale. La Cooper era una vera e propria fabbrica di automobili da corsa, anche per F2 e F3, in grado di sfornare ogni anno decine di monoposto, la produzione Cooper é sempre stata orientata alla vendita a clienti, oltre che alla fornitura al team ufficiale, anzi nei primi anni 50 forse la parte riservata ai clienti era prioritaria, tanto che la prima Cooper ufficiale si vede solo nel 1953. Nel periodo d’oro 1959-1960 moltissime le Cooper in pista, nel Gp di Gran Bretagna del 1959 le Cooper iscritte erano 16, quelle al via 12 su 24 partenti, metà schieramento. Segnaliamo a titolo di esempio quelle del B.R.P. nel 1960, tra i piloti anche Tony Brooks, indubbiamente uno dei migliori dell’epoca, la squadra si iscrisse al campionato come Yeoman Credit Racing Team, primo caso di uso del nome dello sponsor nella denominazione del team.
